THE UNDERCOVER HIPPY – SOLO
Drum and Bass MC turned singer songwriter Billy Rowan, aka The Undercover Hippy, is definitely not your average singer songwriter. His music brings together soulful vocals, infectious reggae rhythms, and the lyrical delivery of a skilled mc. Starting out as a solo act in 2007, he has since teamed up with some fantastic musicians and performs as a four piece, mixing guitars, keys, drums, bass, and backing vocals to create a high energy, interactive and highly entertaining live show. Combining intelligent, provocative lyrics with dangerously catchy hooks and a feel good groove, this is music for the thinking man to shake his arse to. Think Natty meets Eminem…on a protest march…at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Solo performances from The Undercover Hippy have been rare in recent years making them all the more special. Expect an intimate show wherein fans can get an insight into the meanings behind the songs and the chance to hear old songs almost forgotten or new songs yet to be recorded.
Jack Conman – 20 year-old English singer-songwriter & virtuoso guitarist, Jack Conman is based in Hull, UK.
Conman entices listeners with a blend of intricate vocals, booming, goose-bump ridden choruses and a perfect mix of melancholy and energy, dictating the atmosphere in every song. His influences are drawn from the likes of King Krule, Mac Demarco, Matt Corby and Keaton Henson. Last year he completed a 25 gig UK tour with Coffeehouse Sessions and saw his Debut EP on Warren Records, Euphoria springs hit #5 in the ITunes Singer/Songwriter charts.
Already a talented drummer before turning his hand to the guitar, the percussive influence of his first instrument has created a unique playing style where every part of his acoustic is used to tap out beats and rhythms alongside picking melodies on the strings. Combined with his yearning vocals and gift for melody, Jack’s live performances have been silencing awed rooms and festival crowds since first coming onto the scene.
This year, Conman alongside producer Kev La Kat they have launched a new indie label, Axolotl Records . The first release is Jack’s ‘Heddison Ep’ made up of six singles ‘Greatly Hasty’, ‘Uproar’ and ‘Never Tell’ have all been released digitally.
Recently Jack has been to Berlin to record a special acoustic version of ‘Greatly Hasty’ for Colors, the video has had over 70,000 views and has made a lot of YouTubers question Jacks age. Approaching a mere 20 years old, Jack shows maturity and skills that some singer songwriter can never achieve!
After playing at Radio 1’s Big weekender last month, Jack has secured plays with Radio 1 and 6 Music and is definitely one to watch, Jack’s music will continue to break through to new fans wherever it is heard.
“A beautiful mix of folk and soul… the beginning of a blossoming career” – Anthem Review
“A melodic sound that is hauntingly brilliant” – IndieCentral
“Excellent Songwriting” – Pigeons & Planes
“I dare you to listen to his newly-released single, “Greatly Hasty,” and not to care immensely about it. While greatly hasty decisions can often lead to wasteful outcomes, only the wasteful virtues earn the sun — and this is an artist giving the sun a run for its warmth. The song is being released via Axolotl Records, a new indie label with an apparent goal to come flying out the gate at warpspeed.” Grammy Blogger Kick Kick Snare
“Rising songwriting star Jack Conman is set to take the world by storm. Dropping his latest song “Never Tell”, it’s a laid back summer sensation and shows off Jack’s effortless talent. Get ready to start hearing a lot more about him.” – Wonderland Magazine
